Michigan Equality and local LGBT allies are joining together in an event
with Soulforce's Seven Straight Nights for Equal
Rights.<http://eqfed.org/ct/ndAZGOS1Om8L/>
Seven Straight Nights is a coordinated campaign of vigils led by straight
allies who are speaking out about LGBT rights. Our event will take place on
Saturday, October 13, 2007, at Plymouth Congregational Church, 2001 East
Grand River Avenue, Lansing, Michigan 48912.
The program will begin at 6 p.m. with a potluck dinner. If you would like to
participate in the dinner, please bring a dish to pass; table service and
beverages will be provided. The Michigan premiere of the award winning
documentary, "For the Bible Tells Me So" will be shown at 7:30 p.m. This
film reconciles homosexuality and scripture in a manner that people,
religious or not, can understand. The movie portrays the journey of five
families as they discover that the Bible does not condemn what we know as
homosexuality to be a sin.
After the film, there will be four separate events in which participants may
choose: remain in the sanctuary where the film was shown for a facilitated
discussion; a group collage making session where folks will work on a large
collage that will be placed in the Unity of Greater Lansing church; join
Rev. Kent Lederer for a candlelight vigil outside of the church; or
individual meditation, prayer or journaling.
If you are interested in attending any of these events, please RSVP
here<http://eqfed.org/ct/n1AZGOS1Om8S/>.
A $5.00 donation is requested to help cover the costs of screening the film.
If you would like more information please contact Nancy English at

What's At Stake:
Words and hateful messages reach far, impacting ourselves, as well as the
people we love. The group, Young Americans for Freedom (YAF), is bringing in
a speaker, Ryan Sorba to give a lecture, "The Born Gay Hoax." Sorba argues
that being born gay is a political strategy started within the LGBT movement
after 1985. Throughout his lecture, he attempts to show that every
individual is born straight!
Counteract his message by donating money to benefit an ally organization
committed to doing justice for their friends and family, who are lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgender. The longer Ryan Sorba speaks his message on
September 19, 2007, the more money will be donated to Seven Straight Nights
for Equal Rights <http://www.michiganequality.org/sevenights.htm>. By
pledging your support, whether you are part of the LGBT community or a
supportive ally, we all become united together to cancel out the hate
messages. Instead, we have the voice to say who the LGBT community is. Our
words, message and action leave a lasting impact.
